I recommend starting with a freighter... have you heard about Charles' effort to make a freighter kit. He briefly posted about it in one of his blog posts.

The two im looking at are:cargo ships: Altmark and /or a Liberty Ship. Altmark who is about 50inches long and one of the Liberty Ships..  Altmark: 50inches--- 4-feet/2inches-long---- Mom back set in 60inches or 5-feet-long, Liberty Ship: 36inch--- 3feet-long---- Mom back set in 60inches or 5-feet-long. so what do you guys thing. im bring all of them on paper with me, as well as the photos, i know a few people, like Tom ever got to see them..

I think Liberty Ships are a nice size for freighters. Large enough to behave well on the water but still quite small

Bryan,

Small ships are very difficult to ballast correctly and tend to have problems with seaworthiness. Larger ships are more stable on the water but harder to transport. Liberty Ships are in a sweet spot where they are still easy to transport but also handle well on the water.

Nikki, have you checked with Charles about the plans he is making for a freighter kit? The goal is to make a set of plans that people can use to easily a Big Guns frieghter. It really might be a good choice for you! Here is a link to a recent blog post he had about it (thumbnail is also a link)
