Winter Social & Build Meet
This year Tom and Mary are hosting our annual Winter Social. We will meet at 11:30 for lunch at the Golden Corral on Spotsylvania Avenue in Fredericksburg, Virginia (link to Google Maps). We will then all head over to Tom and Mary's house to enjoy his brand new workshop. Tom reports that the workshop has the normal assortment of tools including a small drill press, scroll saw, etc.. If there is a need (post comment below) Brian can bring his new temperature controlled soldering iron.
This year's global warming
will prevent us from sailing at this meet. However, there will be a number of ships on hand. Most of them will probably be torn apart and/or unfinished... this is a built meet! This meet is a great opportunity for people to meet some of the members and learn more about building R/C warships. It is also a great chance for members to get some help on their current projects.
The easiest way to find us is to take a look at pictures of us and then look for us at Golden Coral. At this point we know Tom, Charles and Brian are definitely attending. You can find pictures of Tom, Charles (to left) and Brian in our Club Members Image Gallery.
Who Can Attend
Lunch at Golden Corral is open to the public. Please keep in mind that everyone is responsible for their own checks.
In general the building day at Tom's is for current member's only. Members may bring guests whom they know well personally only with Tom's permission. If you have any question about being qualified to attend please contact Tom, Brian or email editor at mabg dot org.

Any special tool requests?
Sorry I do not have a Mill. (Yet)
I do have a number of wood working tools, and will have them set up for the meet.

Re: Winter Social & Build Meet
Hi Nikki;
Since we will go to the build session after eating, I did not think that snacks would be neccessary.
But the idea of soft drings for while we are working would be good.
Tom.
Re: Winter Social & Build Meet
I have sent personal invatation to Chris (Webwookie) about this meeting and build session.
I have also invited Ryan (Total destruction) and Martin (WarspiceIRC) to join us at the Golden Corral only.

Re: Winter Social & Build Meet
UGH, My workshop is still a storage room. I will move all of the equipment out into the game room for us.
Re: Winter Social & Build Meet
I do have two scroll saws. Also two drill presses. One being the Dremel workstation, with a constant speed Dremel. There will also be a var speed dremel available. Other power tools that will be available if required are, several hand drills, router, sander, tabel saw, miter saw. I know that I have several Exacto knife handles laying around. Two "A"'s, a "B" or "C" and a razor saw, just like what Brian has. Only mine looks like it has seen a lot more use. Not sure of how many new blades for the Exacto knives. I may be all out of fresh blades.
Re: Winter Social & Build Meet
I am coming mostly for the social aspect but can bring my soldering iron if anyone needs any light work done... or if Tom needs me to cleanup any of the work I did on his boat last year LOL
Tom: Do you have a small shop vac? I am trying to think of small projects I can get done in a day with very few tools... plus might be instructional to new people... I thought installing stuffing tubes in Nassau might be a good choice. However, it requires some drilling in fiberglass... so having someone holding a vaccum while I cut will make things a lot nicer for everyone.
Re: Winter Social & Build Meet
Bryan,
I'm so looking forward to see you, Tom and Charles.. but anyway, when dose the season start? hoping i'll see you all saturday ok..
Nikki
Re: Winter Social & Build Meet
It will be good to see you also Nikki. The season starts when mother nature lets us. Usuaully we start having target practices and sailings in April and May. The first battle usually is not until June.
Re: Winter Social & Build Meet
Nikki:
The season starts just as soon as there is no more ice on the water.
Re: Winter Social & Build Meet

Re: Winter Social & Build Meet
My work shop is still a storage room.
In the game room of the basement I did set up one of the scroll saws last night, and both of the drill presses are ready for business. I have two six foot and one five foot table set up as well.
I still have not found any new blades for the exacto knife handles.
Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.

Re: Winter Social & Build Meet
Sorry I missed it guys... I don't know why, entirely, but I had it in my calendar for NEXT weekend, and I just wasn't in position to make the trip when Brian called me this morning. I did get some more work on the Oiler done today, and was going to work on Missouri's electrics when I caught the Cat peeing in the boat again. He will be leaving us as soon as we can get him out from beneath the heating oil tank. Forntunately, I was able to clean things up very quickly this time, and don't expect too much of a delay in restoring Missouri to functionality due to this (excepting losing a week or so worth of progress).
Re: Winter Social & Build Meet
Charles!
I missed seeing you! it would have been fun.. And nice to get a photos with just you, Tom, Bryan, and I! MAybe next.. See you all soon ok..

Re: Winter Social & Build Meet
Hi Nikki;
Just figured out how to set up my printer.
Next time I will have the complete PE paper model printed in 1/144 scale on card stock for you.
This should be a buig help when it comes time to build the actual ship.
I am using the Paper models as a template for the ships I am building.
Take care
Tom
Re: Winter Social & Build Meet
Hi Charles.
Sorry that you could not make it.
I should have started calling everyone a week in advance like I did last year.
Re: Winter Social & Build Meet
The date moved around a lot originally. (13th, 20th and 27th were all possibilities at one point or another) The new 'official' practice is for the back and forth to be done on the members-only event planning forum. Only after we have settled on a date there an event will be created. Hopefully this will reduce the confusion
