Iron

Hit Radio Shack looking for a replacement tip for the iron.

They told me that they do not carry that type of equipment.

Then I showed then a new one that they had on the shelf for sale!!

At which point they started to back peddle and start searching for the part.

An hour later they had an answer:

They do not make replacement parts, buy a new Iron.

Re: Iron

Sounds like you had some typically lazy Radio Shack employees. They sell the tips but probably have to special order them. If you look at some reviews for their irons this is not unussual. The one I bought is notorious for Radio Shack clerks claiming they don't sell tips - basically all the reviews are about this (see here).

Searching online for what I think is the iron's model number (64-2184) I see from a couple of sources that the replacement tips have the following model numbers at Radio Shack:

#64-2089 light duty iron clad chisel tips 2-pack

#64-2084 copper Lt., med.,and hvy. duty 3-pack

Re: Iron

Digging a little deeper it also looks like the iron is a rebranded Weller - probably the best name in the industry. If true you should be able to get replacement tips for it as a Weller. The post I saw suggested that the Weller PL111/PL113 tips would work (1/4" thread on SL).
