Nikki's new baby

Guys,
I'm getting a Battlers Connection Andrea Doria. John, the guy who was going to build her. But when it came time to cut the hull, he just couldn't do it. So He was selling her with EVERY thing, for $350.00!! My dad dose not know about her yet:D!!! So when i do get her, I'm going to make a list of what all i have, cause as of now i only need the reg and CO2 bottle! She My little LST  bigger sister! She's Either be here in late May or early June!! But my plan for the first season or two is Leaving her as a surface runner. and After a Season or two, I'll cut the window out and turn her into a combat model!! At only 50inches long, she safely fit in my mom's back set, with me and my little LST!! but She's going to be a heavy little bugger at almost 25lbs!! I'll get photos up in a few day http://s575.photobucket.com/albums/ss192/NASAAN101/ .. There were only three guys who know about me getting her! Scott Wippel, Mikey Deskin and My other friend from the OAF Chase Hargraves! But I'm looking at do a double PCV Carrier, for both little LST and little Doria.. Its Not little Rrinz or little Lutzow.. but she'll let me save of for them!! I'll get photos of her on my photobucket in the next day or two!! but in the mean time, let me know what you guys thing ok!!

Re: Nikki's new baby

Guys,
I dont have her with me yet?? I asked this on RC naval combet: The two radios are http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=15140 --- Hobby King 2.4Ghz 6Ch Tx & Rx V2 - Mode 2. I need a program cable for it, and i can only use in IRC, but the other one i'm looking at is this one: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=10173 --- HK-7X 2.4Ghz 7ch w/ 5 Model Memory TX & RX V2, which would let me program the two Speed in for her In IRC she's 26sec over a 100-feet and in Treaty She's 33sec over a 100-feet! I'm not sure why the speeds are so Diffident! and a possible third that Clark told me about: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...oduct=8991! its a Turnigy 9X 9Ch Transmitter w/ Module & 8ch Receiver!!

Guys,
But anyway, Stubid ME, 3 Fridays ago when it was so hot here in Pittsburgh, I left my bedroom door open, and had Doria setting on my dresser and didn't have rubber band on the dock either! My two sisters cats: Brace and KT got in to it and knocked her off the dresser and chipped part of the bow off! But how do you fix a chipped bow, any ideas?? I found four Free stand Storage shelves and want to see what you guys thing of them!

Re: Nikki's new baby

That is terrible Nikki! Oh well, at least now you get some experience repairing damage to your ship!

How big is a 'chip'? Is the area made out of balsa or something impenetrable? If the damage is to the balsa then you might find some tips in my post Battle Damage Repair 101. If you need to replace material in the impenetrable fiberglass/wood part of the hull then you can probably use some mariene grade epoxy putty. I mentioned the putty I have been using in an earlier blog post.

I have some shelves like the Real Organized shelves and I like them well enough. They are a little wider than most shelves which is handy and tends to make them a little more stable.

Re: Nikki's new baby

Brain,
Its Not on the bow, but On the Deck!!! So I might just glue that little part on to the Deck rim, and they with the wood putty, cover it that way!!! Lucky the Hull was sparded any damage, it was just the deck! But i'm thing about Buying a new one for her!! for about $50.00, why not get a new deck that way, I can draw on the one i have and then cut that out and then lay them out on the new deck!!! What do you guys thing??

Re: Nikki's new baby

Hey guys,
Sorry, I haven't up dated anything on her: Also, on sunday to make sure all the ribs were even, they aren't 7 of her ribs, which are 1,2,5,6,17,18, and 19 are 3/8inches and 12-are a 1/4inch which are 3,4,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16!! Are there any idaes??? I'm not trying to crap about it, I just went to know what i should do? I know strike sells the 3/8inch and 1/4inch tape, but i don't know if that something i can do with wall tape or no? Also, Isn't the 3/8th inch bigger then the 1/4 of an inch???  But i'm also looking at running a gear box in her, that way it makes it easyer to counter-rotate the props, right??? let me know what you guys thing, Also i have a friend that is willing to get the windows cut out for me, i know i can't do it but then in oct. if i'm able to make the battle in Xenia I'm hoping to work on her then and my my friend has his two day build day! also, I don't know how many of you are on RC naval combat, abut that was between me and a friend: Look at this and let me know what you thing ok: this was between me and my friend MIke Mangas, He was at IRC spring Regionals Last april! Me: the nice thing about Doria is she can PLAY both sides so which ever team need help more and mikey came back with: Funny that .. the nice thing about French ships is that they can be on the opposite side of the Doria and smack it around too. . and I came back with: Mikey, HA HA funny, wait til she gets her teeth and wait til i'm so what good with her !! she's going to be a great boat!! and i Just hope that i'm good with her, ya it going to take me a few seasons, But I thing i can get the hang of her! talk to you later ok!! that was in the smack thread if any of you saw it!

Re: Nikki's new baby

There is nothing in our rules that requires all of the ribs be the same thickness...  However, windows adjacent to 3/8" need to be 3" across, windows adjacent to 1/4" ribs need to be 2" across and windows adjacent to 1/8" ribs can be 1" across. The spacing between ribs uses the worst of the three. So if you have a 3/8" rib followed by a 1/4" rib the window between them would be 3" across.

Nikki

Re: Nikki's new baby

Hi Nikki!  The Viper Marine-15 looks like a very nice speed controller for brushed motors.

Nikki's picture

Re: Nikki's new baby

 Guys,
what i've seen is the Viper-Marine 15 Speed control has a blue wire and a yellow wire, and I'm not sure how to do it? can you guys tell me how to do it??
Nikki

Re: Nikki's new baby

The best thing to do is look at the manual. However, if it only has those two wires and a servo lead then those are the power for the motor. You will have to compare the output to your propeller rotation to know which way to wire up the motor.

Nikki's picture

Re: Nikki's new baby

Brian,
I needed to get new motors, so I'm going to rewire the Motors  + to - and - To + .. IS that right??? But I still have the Tazer 15t, that i can go back to if i have to!!

Re: Nikki's new baby

Hey Guys,

When I First checked Doria Ribs On Sept. 18th, 2011! Rib 1: 3/8inch, Rib 2: 3/8inch, Rib 3: 1/4inch, Rib 4: 1/4inch, Rib 5: 3/8inch, Rib 6: 3/8inch, Rib 7: 1/4inch, Rib 8: 1/4inch, Rib 9: 1/4inch, Rib 10: 1/4inch, Rib 11: 1/4inch, Rib 12: 1/4inch, Rib 13: 1/4inch, Rib 14: 1/4inch, Rib 15: 1/4inch, Rib 16: 1/4inch, Rib 17: 3/8inch, Rib 18: 3/8inch,Rib 19: 3/8inch! That was the starboard that I checked! Then when i Re-checked them today Feb. 20th 2012, Rib 1: 1/4inch, Rib 2: 1/4inch,Rib 3: 1/8inch, Rib 4: 1/4inch, Rib 5: 1/4inch, Rib 6: 1/4inch, Rib 7: 1/4inch, Rib 8: 1/4inch Rib 9: 1/4inch, Rib 10: 1/4inch, Rib 11: 1/4inch, Rib 12: 1/4inch, Rib 13: 1/4inch, Rib 14: inch, Rib 15: a little more the a 1/4inch, Rib 16: 1/4inch, Rib 17: 1/4inch, Rib 18: inch,Rib 19: 1/8inch, Thoses were the Port side Ribs. So there is a big Diffinces there, Dose anyone have any ideas, I'm thing about putting white type on them and Doing the ribs over! And what I might do Is Redo them, and Have all of them a 1/4inch!! I was bored! Also, I'm Thing at least for the first few Years, til I can get the rest of the Gun stuff that i need to get the guns working, i was looking at Turning Doria into a show model, I have a friend here, that is trying to get a big gun group going and we have been doria the RC show here in the Pittsburgh area!!!

Re: Nikki's new baby

Doing the ribs over is not really an option on a glass hull... You probably can not do it without ruining the hull...

The rib width is only part of the equation. You have to consider how far apart the ribs need to be. You are building the ship for fast guns so you should ask them about their rules. However, under our rules the spacing would need to be something like this:

First Rib Second Rib Minimum Distance Between Centers
3/8" 3/8" 3"
3/8" 1/4"
3/8" 1/8"
1/4" 1/4" 2"
1/4" 1/8"
1/8" 1/8" 1"

The important point is that the minimum distance between two ribs is based on how thick the widest rib is. It does not matter how wide the smaller rib is.

Re: Nikki's new baby

Brian,
The Hull is not Cut yet!!! Math was never one of my good classes :)! This was from a friend on the RCNC site: It looks like the ribs are closer together towards the front and spaced further apart towards the back, which is what I typically see if the ribs are not just evenly spaced. For the lengthened version 613' = 51"   so 15%  = 7.66" total blocked area. After subtracting the 3" for the bow and stern you have 4.66" left for 18 1/4" ribs. If they were evenly spaced they would have 2.5" between centers or each window would be 2.25" wide. let me know what you thing ok! I'm also going to check the ribs on both sides of the ship in the nexted day or so!! if you need me to i can get a new photo of the ribs!!!
