Foamy

I have noticed that one of my biggest frustrations is trying to cut foamy.

After six tries in building a superstructure for Lumpy, I am giving up.

Maybe we should have a foamy cutting class?

Re: Foamy

I use a sharp X-Acto knife and a metal straightedge. I have to frequently change the blades because they dull quickly. Its basically the same as cutting foam-core, matting or poster board. Place the metal straightedge on top of the material along the line you want to cut and slide the knife along the straightedge.

I've got to make Nassau's superstructure in July - I will post more details then (no time right now)

Re: Foamy

 Hi all,

New to all this, really looking around seeeing whats out there in the way of this hobby.

I saw this topic and i thought i might be able to add something.  A while back i worked with styrofoam actually making a very small boat hull.  I used an old reciprocating saw blade and heated it up to cut/hollow it out.  Hope this helps!

Re: Foamy

That is what I use, but my cuts are still on an angle.

I have found that foamy can be shapped with a Dremmel.

It is not easy, and does make a mess!

Re: Foamy

You need to be careful about how you hold the knife. One great thing about Foamie is it is easy to slice angles in it - but that can also be a pain if you want strait edges.
